The atrioventricular nodal artery of the heart is a branch of the right coronary artery in 80% of the population. In the remaining 20%, it originates from the left coronary artery.
In the majority, it branches off from the right coronary artery on the inferior surface of the heart just distal to the origin of the posterior interventricular artery. It passes superiorly within the atrioventricular groove.
It supplies the atrioventricular node, the atrioventricular bundle of His and the first part of the bundle branches.
