Pulmonary vein (right superior, anatomy)

Authoring team

The right superior pulmonary vein drains from the right superior and middle lobes. The lobar veins from the two sources converge slightly proximal to the hilum of the right lung to form its most anterior structure. The common vein's relations within the right root are:

  • posterosuperior: right main pulmonary artery
  • posterioinferior: inferior pulmonary vein

The vein passes medially, inferiorly and slightly anteriorly within the right lung root to merge with the pericardium of the posterior of the left atrium. Superiorly at this point are the pulmonary arteries. Inferiorly is the right inferior pulmonary vein.
